Welcome to the Annual Law Enforcement Survey.

The ALES collects data on the sociodemographic characteristics of police chiefs and sheriffs, as well as information about their views on police policies, problems, and future priorities. In addition, the ALES also gathers data from political elites and citizens about law enforcement preferences. The point of these data collection efforts is to better understand the constraints and pressures that law enforcement officers face.
